Mathias
Oehlert was born in Heidelberg, West-Germany. He spent his childhood in
Neustadt in Palatine and later moved to Hannover, where he visited high
school.
In the early 1980th he immigrated to Canada
and made his
B.A. in Literature at University of Toronto. He worked over ten years
as a registered Real Estate Broker in Toronto until he could afford to
tend his real interest: the creation of art work.
He
tought himself the techniques of glass art and in 1995 he founded
Branden Gates Studios in Toronto.
His
artistic stained glass was in such demand that he had at one time over
ten assistant workers and litterally thousands of windows have been
made.
In 2002 Mathias wanted to return to his home country. He
gave
his Toronto stained glass studio to an employee who did continue it
on her own account.
Now Mathias lives with
his small
daughter in Impflingen, a historic village in southern
Germany,
where he renovated an old farm house. Here he creates artistc
windows for clients all over the world.
Mathias
has been
participating on many exhibitions worldwide, so in Canada, Germany and
France. Lately his work goes to Hong Kong and Singapour.
